In light of Horsemeat topic being discussed in the news, please read the statement from the LBBD catering service.
To All schools for distribution to parents
Barking and Dagenham Catering Services would like to reassure our schools, parents and pupils of the Borough that the food we provide for the delivery of school meals is not affected by the on going horsemeat scandal.
Our key suppliers are William White Meats, Brakes and Thomas Ridley who provide us with fresh goods and grocery items. As a Borough we are accredited with the Food for Life Bronze Partnership Award which means that we are required to meet strict criteria; with more than 76% of items produced from scratch. Fresh meat is from farms which satisfy UK welfare standards with Red Tractor farm assured as a welfare minimum.
All our suppliers have produced statements that give us reassurance that this is the case and have given further confirmation that horsemeat is not purchased or handled.
The FSA has started a sampling programme to investigate how far the contaminated products have been distributed and food businesses have been ordered to carry out authenticity tests on all beef products. We will keep you informed of any developments.
In the meantime please continue to use our service and enjoy a delicious hot two course meal that has been nutritionally analysed and more than meets government standards.
